SC-900 Updates on October 21: What Is Actually Changing?

Microsoft has confirmed that the English-language SC-900 exam will be updated on October 21, 2026. This is a targeted update, not a restructuring of the exam. Microsoft’s study-guide change log identifies two minor changes, while the four domain weightings remain the same.

The Two Changes at a Glance
The published objective wording changes in two places:
| Topic | Earlier wording | Wording effective October 21 |
| Microsoft Entra ID identity types | Identity types, including agent ID | Identity types, including workload identities |
| Threat intelligence under Microsoft Defender XDR | Microsoft Defender Threat Intelligence (Defender TI) | Microsoft Threat Intelligence |
Microsoft Entra ID: Reviewing Workload Identities
The identity change deserves particular attention. A workload identity represents software - such as an application, service, or script - when it authenticates to access a resource. In Microsoft Entra, relevant concepts include applications, service principals, and managed identities. Candidates preparing for the updated exam should therefore review the broader concept rather than memorizing “Agent ID” alone. That is a study recommendation based on the published wording, not a claim that Microsoft has announced a new question type.
Microsoft Threat Intelligence: Updated Objective Wording
The second change updates the name used for the threat-intelligence objective. Use the new wording when checking your notes, but do not assume that a renamed objective means an entirely new product or exam domain has been added.
Domain Weights and Your Study Plan
The domain weights remain 10–15% for security, compliance, and identity concepts; 25–30% for Microsoft Entra; 35–40% for Microsoft security solutions; and 20–25% for Microsoft compliance solutions. If you are already studying, there is no reason to restart your plan. Review the two changed objectives, then check the rest of your coverage against Microsoft’s current guide.
Update Timing for Other Exam Languages
Finally, October 21 is the English exam update date. Microsoft says localized versions are generally updated about eight weeks later, but that timing can vary. If you plan to test in Chinese or another language, verify the applicable version on the official exam page before booking.
